FMCSA’s Ray Martinez Seeks Dialogue With Fleets, Drivers

MARCO ISLAND, Fla. — The head of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration spotlighted key trucking issues — including hours-of-service rules, electronic logging devices and truck parking — during remarks here at an industry meeting, and stressed that he wants his agency to build a positive relationship with fleets and drivers.



Large-Truck Fatal Crashes up 3% in 2016, FMCSA Final Report Says

A new Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration data drill-down report showed that the number of trucks involved in fatal crashes increased in 2016 by 3% from 2015, but said the “critical pre-crash event” for 73% of large trucks in fatal crashes was another vehicle, person, animal or object in the truck’s lane or encroaching into it.



Diesel Rises for 9th Straight Week, Up 3.8¢ to $3.277

The U.S. average retail price of diesel fuel rose 3.8 cents to $3.277 a gallon, the ninth straight week that trucking’s main fuel has gone up in price, according to the weekly report from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration on May 21.



Continental Offers ELD Rebate

Six months after most commercial trucks were required to have a working electronic logging device, Continental Automotive Systems is offering fleets and owner-operators a “do over” if they are unhappy with the ELD they decided upon last year.
